Materials:

  • Index Card
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Fold the index card in half the long way (hotdog style).
  2. Using the scissors, cut about 1 cm off the bottom of one end of the index card. Start your cut on the folded side and end on the open side, but don’t cut all the way through. There should be nothing coming off the index card!
  3. Repeat step 2 on the other end of the index card.
  4. Unfold the index card. Using the scissors again, cut along the crease of the large section. Make sure not to cut through the slits you made in steps 2 and 3.
  5. Fold the index card again the long way (hotdog style).
  6. On one end of the index card, use the scissors to cut another slit about 1 cm away from the last slit. Again, start on one side of the index card, but don’t cut fully through to the other side.
  7. Make another slit with the scissors about 1 cm away from the slit in step 6. This time, start the cut on the opposite side of the index card than you did on step 6. Remember not to cut all the way through to the other side.
  8. Continue making slits on the index card about 1 cm away from one another. Alternate the side that you start cutting from. Make sure not to cut though to the other side of the index card.
  9. Once you are done cutting till the other end of the index card, carefully unfold and stretch it out.
  10. Step through it and see how much it can stretch before it breaks!
