Materials:

  • Pizza Box
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors/Box Cutter
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Clear Tape
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Plastic Wrap (You can also use a large transparent plastic bag)
  • Old Newspaper
  • Oven Mit
  • Oven Safe Dish/Pie Tin

Instructions:

  1. Make sure your pizza box is clean before starting.
  2. Using your ruler and pencil, draw three out of four sides of a square one inch away from the borders on your pizza box.
  3. With help from an adult, use the scissors or boxcutter to cut out your pencil lines.
  4. Fold the flap up by creasing the uncut side.
  5. Cover the inner side of the cardboard flap with a piece of aluminum foil. Wrap the foil tightly around the flap and secure with clear tape.
  6. Fill the bottom of your pizza box with the black construction paper.
  • Once you finish the rest of your steps, go back and try putting white paper. Does it work? What happens?
  1. Using the plastic wrap or bag, tightly wrap it around the hole created with the flap. Repeat this step so there are two layers of plastic over the hole. Use the tape to secure the plastic
  2. Crumple and stuff the newspaper into the sides of the pizza box. Make sure you are still able to close the lid of the box.
  3. Put your oven outside in the sunlight when you are planning on cooking food.
  4. Try your oven out! Make sure to put your food on a plate when you want to use your oven so it doesn’t get messy!
